FOUNDING FOUNDATIONS OF BİLKENT UNIVERSITY

The founding foundations, established in the 1960s by İhsan Doğramacı, were originally known respectively as the Hacettepe Education Foundation, the Hacettepe Science Foundation and the Hacettepe Health Foundation. Law 5072, which took effect in 2004, outlawed the use of any university name in a foundation name. Hacettepe University had been chartered in 1967, so “Hacettepe” was replaced by the name of the founder in the titles of the foundations. Thus they became the İhsan Doğramacı Education Foundation, the İhsan Doğramacı Science and Research Foundation and the İhsan Doğramacı Health Foundation. Together these three foundations created Bilkent University in 1984. All the foundations are headquartered in Ankara. Contact information is below.
